California law requires anyone who files a Fictitious Business Name (FBN) Statement to publish the statement in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where the business is located.
Publication requirements include:
The FBN statement must be published once per week for four consecutive weeks
Publication must begin within 45 days of filing the FBN statement
The newspaper must be adjudicated in that county
After publication is complete, a Proof of Publication must be filed with the Clerk-Recorder’s office.
If proof of publication is not filed on time, the FBN statement expires and a new filing and publication will be required.
